Description

This dataset is associated with the article published in Adansonia, “Revision of the genus Chaetocarpus (Peraceae) in the Guianas and description of a new species, C. morigerus”: [URL]

It contains two types of data:

1. Photographs and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images

The dataset includes photographs and SEM images of the three Chaetocarpus (Peraceae) species occurring in the Guianas: Chaetocarpus morigerus Julien Engel & P. Petronelli, sp. nov., C. schomburgkianus (Kuntze) Pax & K. Hoffm., and C. stipularis Gleason.

The images document fresh material, floral and fruit dissections observed under a stereomicroscope, and structures observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Each image file is labeled with the species name, followed by the collector’s surname and collection number, and a brief description of the image content (e.g., Chaetocarpus_schomburgkianus_Bordenave9647_SEM fruit surface).

Images are provided in three ZIP archives, one for each species:

  • Chaetocarpus morigerus J. Engel & Pétronelli, sp. nov. zip
  • Chaetocarpus schomburgkianus (Kuntze) Pax & K. Hoffm. zip
  • Chaetocarpus stipularis Gleason. zip

2. iNaturalist observations

The dataset also includes one CSV file containing observations of Chaetocarpus morigerus sp. nov. retrieved from the iNaturalist platform (https://www.inaturalist.org/) on 17 September 2026.

These observations were used as complementary data to herbarium specimens to assess the IUCN conservation status of this newly described species.
