Description
| 179 soil samples were collected from France, Tunisia, Hungary, Italy, Germany and Canada. All the information was given in Hazera et al. 2026 (https://doi.org/10.57745/AL3NVT) and in Hazera et al. 2026 (https://doi.org/10.5194/bg-23-1881-2026).
Spectral acquisitions
The MIR reflectance spectra were measured using a lab spectrophotometer Bruker Invenio S (Bruker Optics, Ettlingen, Germany). The spectral resolution ranged from 4000 to 400 cm-1, with a 1 cm-1 interval. Each reflectance resulted from the averaging of 32 co-added scans. Soil samples were prepared at 0.2mm and only one aliquot per sample was measured. All spectra were then converted from reflectance (R) to absorbance (A) : A = - log(R). Every spectrum in these datasets is an absorbance spectrum.
SOC and SIC determination
Soil organic carbon (SOC), soil inorganic carbon (SIC) and N contents were determined by dry combustion, using an Elemantal Analyser (CHN Fisons/Carlo Erba NA 2000, Milan, Italy) after SOC or SIC removal or by RockEval thermal ramp analysis. C and N data were given in Hazera et al. 2026 (https://doi.org/10.57745/AL3NVT).
Projects & Fundings This work was supported by the SICSOCDYN ‘Organic and inorganic carbon dynamic in calcareous soils’ project of the first external call ‘Towards Healthy, Resilient and Sustainable Agricultural Soils’ within the EJP SOIL program (2022–2025), Horizon 2020 (grant number 862695), and by the ALAMOD project of the exploratory research program FairCarboN funding managed by the Agence Nationale de la Recherche under the France 2030 program, reference ANR-22-PEXF-0002 – project ALAMOD. The analyses of the Hungarian samples have been supported by the project no. 2019-2.14-ERA-NET-2022-00037 implemented with the support provided by the Ministry of Culture and Innovation of Hungary from the National Research, Development and Innovation Fund, financed under the ERA-NET COFUND/EJP COFUND funding scheme with co-funding from the European Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. |

Notes
| Spectral data are currently subject to an embargo. The embargo will be lifted no later than two years after the publication of this dataset on DataSuds. In the meantime, it is possible to request access to the data from the authors via the DataSuds platform. To do so:
- 1- log in to the platform with a French Federation Education Recherche account or a CRU account (to be created here);
- 2- submit an access request using the ‘access request’ button for the files to be downloaded;
- 3- fill in the form and validate your request.
The authors or an administrator will process your request. If you have any problems, please write to data@ird.fr |
